IKGPTU celebrates “World Photography Day” with renowned photographer Naqsh
University’s JMC Department organized “Expert Photography workshop” for students
Jalandhar/Kapurthala “We are in the era of smartphones and digital media where each of us is fondly a photographer. Whilst we gauge the beauty of life by capturing some memories through a few clicks, we all have an instinct of influence running behind our minds for photography as a skill. Mobile photography is undoubtedly popular among all of us, especially the youth, for the Instagram validation they seek of it. Keeping this in mind and to teach aspiring media students core nuances of photography, with the intent of enhancing their skills, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University celebrated “World Photography Day”. The department organized a one-day expert workshop for the students on the concepts and techniques of camera handling along with how to capture professional grade photographs from mobile phones and cameras.

Mr. Naqsh Sharma, who is a bright young photographer, entrepreneur and founder of the Naqsh Photography operating out of Jalandhar, joined the event as the resource person to facilitate the students. He shared the experiences of his working as an influencer with brand “Canon” as well. University Vice Chancellor Dr. Susheel Mittal & Registrar Dr. S.K. Misra congratulated the department & its faculty and students for organizing this creative workshop, for its practical approach and daily application in the field of journalism. They congratulated all on this very special day through a message.

Dean Academic Prof (Dr.) Vikas Chawla was the Chief guest of this workshop. Prof (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Head of the department of JMC & other teaching staff, cordially welcomed the chief guest and the resource person valuing their esteemed presence. This workshop emphasized on the basic camera techniques, shutter speed, and how to set aperture. Emphasizing the use case of mobile phones and professional cameras to click professional grade pictures along with the importance of lighting, and handling of the professional cameras, the resource person made it quite a learning event for the student audience.

Expert Naqsh Sharma further explained the importance of photography in every aspect of our lives whilst sharing his own experience with the students. He affirmed that photography has been a passion for him and that has been the main reason that he shifted from a full time well-paying corporate job to an entrepreneurial venture. He exclaimed,” When you have a passion for anything, you will enjoy doing the work and try to learn new things to enhance your skills. The more you use the cameras, the more you will learn the techniques”. He patiently answered the queries raised by the students.

To make this workshop more interactive, a task was given to the students where they had to click one photograph within the campus on their mobiles, and the best student captured photo was awarded the professional shoot by the resource person. Towards the end of the programme, Dr. Ekta Mahajan, Assistant Professor of the department, gave a formal vote of thanks to the guests. She lauded the speaker for sharing his valuable experience with the students and enriching their knowledge in the field of photography.

Hemanpreet and Pooja, the students of Masters in Journalism and Mass communication, handled the stage. On this occasion, Assistant Professor of the department, Mangla Sahni and H.K Singh, were also present to support the students.
