IKGPTU, Punjab Skill Development Mission and ICICI Foundation signed MoU

  • Decision to increase the target of providing training to the youth of Punjab
  • 2000 youngster already getting benefits every year, expansion is step next
  • Chandigarh/Jalandhar/Kapurthala : With the aim of providing better skilled training to the youth of the state in various professional & entrepreneurial fields, I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), Punjab Skill Development Mission and ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Chandigarh. Through this MoU, ICICI Foundation & IKGPTU will jointly provide skilled training to youngsters at Punjab Institute of Technology (PIT) Khunimajra (Mohali), a constituent Campus of IKGPTU. Foundation, University & Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSMD) will train the youth of Punjab to become skilled manpower for the industry and for their own ventures. The foundation has been working closely with the university in this regard even before this agreement. It is an extension to the more work & to strengthen the performance by holding hands of each-other. For this training, various types of labs (practical workshops) have already been set up by the Foundation at PIT Khunimajra Campus. The Ultra-modern classrooms are also functional in this campus.

    IKGPTU Registrar Dr.S.K Mishra shared that under this MoU, youth are being trained in various courses, including Central Air-conditioning (CAC), Electrical and Home Appliance Repair (EHA), Office Administration (OA), Pumps and Motor (PM), Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Repair (RAC), Selling Skills (SS), Tractor Mechanic (TM), Two Wheeler-Three Wheeler Technician (TWST). After this agreement, the work of this already operating institution will increase & more initiatives be taken.

    On this occasion, Sh. Rahul Bhandari, Sr. IAS, Vice Chancellor IKG-PTU cum Principal Secretary, Department of Technical Education and Industrial Education, Govt. of Punjab, who was specially present as the chief guest of the ceremony, said that these kind of practical cum training projects are the backbone of the future Punjab. According to the project report, about 2000 needy youth of Punjab are being provided practical and theoretical studies every year at this institution.

    Expressing satisfaction on this fact, Sh. Bhandari said that increasing this figure further after the agreement and setting up more such projects under Punjab Skill Development Mission, will support Punjabi youth to become entrepreneurs. He further added that trained youth are the future of the developed country and trained youth is the basis for creating employment opportunities in the society. Placement in this project will also be provided by ICICI Foundation.

    The MoU was signed in the office of the Chairman, Punjab Board of Technical Education, Sector 36, Chandigarh. On this occasion Director General Employment Generation and Training cum Mission Director IAS Deepti Uppal, Project Coordinator Amandeep Kaur, Mission Manager Saurabh Kapila, Dean IKGPTU Professor Dr. Yadwinder Singh Brar, Center Head ICICI Academy for Skills Deepak Kumar, Rural Initiative Head Surinder Purohit and others were present.
