IKGPTU JMC Department conducted Google Fact Check Workshop
Young Entrepreneur & Trainer Khyati Kohli trained to 50 Journalism students

Jalandhar/Kapurthala In this era of digital media, there is a lot of misinformation, fake or forged information and propaganda in the society. After the high response of social media, this misinformation is often seen as a curse, when we distribute or circulate it or share it further without fact checking. This trend has grown rapidly. In such a situation, it is very important to overcome the ill-effects of false information and bring out the right facts. For this purpose a special training workshop was organized for the students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU). Google Trained trainer Khyati Kohli from the Google News Initiative India Training Network organized this workshop on a special invitation from the university. University Registrar Dr. S.K Misra congratulated the department for organizing this event. Trainer Khyati Kohli is a young entrepreneur who is running a web based English media venture.

This workshop taught audio-video fact checks, data validation & collection, climate change and global change, ethical responsibility. During the workshop, some important laws related to digital media were also highlighted by the trainer Ms Kohli. Students also asked questions related to their past experience and future from the trainer. He explained how fact checking departments are being set up to fight misinformation in the digital age. Ms. Khyati Kohli was welcomed by the Head of the Department Professor (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Assistant Professor (Dr.) Ekta Arora and Deputy Registrar Public Relations Rajneesh Sharma. Faculty of the department Dr. Balbir Kumar, Mangala Sahni and others were present on this occasion.
