IKG PTU Journalism students mark National Cinema Day

– Students watch “Mission Raniganj” on the Cinema Day, students visited FM Station

Jalandhar/Kapurthala To celebrate National Cinema Day, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) organized a one-day visit to the screening of the movie “Mission Raniganj”. Students also visited a FM radio station in Jalandhar city.

This student activity was planned under the able guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Susheel Mittal. Dean Academics Prof. (Dr.) Vikas Chawla & Registrar Dr S.K.Misra appreciated the initiative of the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication. Department Head Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh said that Cinema is a reflection of the society. It portrays things as they are and helps in opening our eyes to issues, we may have well ignored in the past. This movie was decided for the students as it is based on the true-life event of the late Jaswant Gill, who led India’s first successful coal mine rescue mission in November 1989. Being media students, it’s important for them to understand the concept of cinematography and various aspects related to film studies.”

Dr. Ekta Mahajan, Assistant Professor, added that after the movie, students went to FM radio station to understand the organizational structure and working of the radio station.

RJ Bindas Vikas from FM station interacted with the students. He introduced the students with various profiles at a radio along with the working of a radio station and various departments. He guided the students on how to develop radio jockey skills.

The students also played a few games with RJ and won prizes. A total of 45 students of the department enjoyed the movie and visited the radio station along with the faculty members namely Mangla Sahni, HK Singh, Rajwinder Kaur and Garima
