IKG PTU inspired students for sports activities in respect to Quote of Hippocrates

    7th Sports Executive Council Meeting held at IKGPTU main Campus

It is famous quotes of outstanding historical figure Greek physician Hippocrates that “Sport is a preserver of health”. And in respect to this quote I K Gujral Punjab Technical University is inspiring its students to give their maximum participation in Sports activities. Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma recalled this quote after reviewing the agenda of 7th Sports Executive Council. The Council meeting was held at University’s main Campus in the Chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma.

The main agenda of meeting was to discuss the points for the development of sports related activities among the affiliated colleges of IKGPTU. There were fifteen council members, including Dr. R P S Bedi Joint Registrar, Student Affairs, Dr. S S Walia, Registrar, Dr. Nitya Sharma, Deputy Controller of Accounts, Vinay Kehar, Incharge Sports, Ripu Daman Kumar Singh, Veteran Olympian, Principal/Directors and Sport officers of affiliated colleges.

Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma takes introductions of all council members and Dr. R.P.S Bedi, Joint Registrar welcomed to all council members. After that Dr. Bedi shared the agenda with the members. The Action Taken Report of the 6th meeting of sports executive council was discussed and approved by all the members. The Annual Reports of session 2016-17 and session 2017-18 was presented and also approved by the council. It was also shared that a Ten days summer coaching camp will be organised in the first week of July 2018 at Regional Mountaineering Centre, Mcleodganj for selected sports students who hold positions in the inter-college and inter-varsity sports tournaments.
Veteran Olympian Ripu Daman Kumar Singh lamented his experience for the development of the sports activities. He shared that Education and Sports have complementarity. Both needs to do together. It is the urgent need of the time and students should be encouraged.

It was also discussed and approved by council members that coaching camps must be organised ten days before to the inter-varsity tournament in the same college which is hosting the inter-college tournament of the same sports category.

The council members also discussed about the ‘Free Ship Scheme for Sports Persons’, In this entire tuition fee will be offered as free ship to those students who have participated or secured any position in inter varsity tournaments.

In the last, Dr. S. S Walia, Registrar gave vote of thanks to all the members for giving their valuable time and fruitful discussion.
