21st IKGPTU Athletic meet

Chandigarh Engineering College (CEC) Landran won the overall trophy (both in Men’s and Women’s category) in the 21st IKG PTU Inter-College three-day Athletic Meet organized by the Sports Department of the Inder Kumar Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, which concluded at Rayat-Bahra Ropar Campus here today.

Shaheed Udham Singh College of Engineering and Technology (SUSCET) Tangori were the runners up in the Men’s category while GNE, Ludhiana bagged the runners trophy in the Women’s category.

Dr SS Walia, Director, Student Welfare, IKGPTU, Kapurthala, was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony. He distributed the prizes among the winners and congratulated the players for their outstanding performances.

Dr Suresh Seth, Campus Director, Rayat-Bahra Ropar Campus, congratulated the participating teams and thanked Officials and all the players for making this mega athletic meet a success. Vinay Kehar, Sports In-charge, IKG PTU, Dr Ajay Goyal, Joint Campus Director, Dr Naresh Gill, Director, Rayat Institute of Pharmacy, were present on this occasion.

In the Men’s category, Pawan Sondhi of LKCE-Jalandhar won the gold medal, Vijay Kumar of CEC-Landran, bagged the silver medal and Gurwinder Singh of SUSCET, Tangori won the bronze medal in 5000 m race, Abhinash of CEC, Landran won the gold medal, Rahul of CEC, Landran won the silver medal and Ashok Kumar of RIET, Phagwara won the bronze medal in 400m hurdle, Gautam Singh of SUS College, Tangori, won the gold medal by setting a new record , Shahfaiz of SUSCET, Tangori, won the silver medal and Sahil of IET, Bhaddal won the bronze medal in High Jump, Bharat Bhushan of CEC, Landran won Gold medal, Varun of IET, Bhaddal, bagged silver medal and Vinod Kumar of SUSCET, Tangori , won bronze medal in 100 m race.

In Women’s category, in Long Jump Jaspreet Kaur of GTBIT, Dakha won the gold medal by setting a new record, Diksha of IET, Bhaddal bagged the silver medal and Harleen Ahuja of CEC, Landran, won the bronze medal, Jasneet Kaurof CEC, Landran won gold medal, Harmanpreet Kaur of CEC, Landran, won silver medal and Prince Jassar of RIET, Phagwara, won bronze medal in 400 m hurdle race, Manjot of CEC, Landran , won gold medal, Harleen Kaur of CEC, Landran, won silver medal and Harmandeep Kaur of CT College, Jalandhar, won bronze medal in Discuss Throw, Harleen Kaur of CEC-Landran won Gold medal, Sonjeet Kaur of AS Group, Khanna won silver medal and Harpreet Kaur of CT College, Jalandhar, won bronze medal in Triple Jump.

Earlier, it was a splash of colors at the opening of the. IKG PTU Inter-College three-day Athletic Meet where Varinder Singh, Hockey Olympian and Satinder Singh, SBS Nagar Superintendent of Police, presided over the inaugural ceremony. Dr SS Walia, Director, Students Affairs, IKGPTU, Kapurthala, was the Guest of Honor.

Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chairman, Rayat-Bahra Group of Institutions, said it was a proud moment for Rayat-Bahra Ropar Campus to be the host of this State-level athletic meet. He expressed hope that the participating students would display true sportsmanship during the various sporting events.
