Top Academic step taken by IKGPTU, launched Discovery Services for Academic Community

By taking initiative in term of academic upgradation & modernization, I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University now launched Discovery Services for its Academic Community. This service is an online library searching tool that provides all-in-one interface for finding local library items and online subscription to open access resources.
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma launched this service on March 18, 2019. During addressing the ceremony Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sharma said that it’s a proud moment for us that after IITs, IKGPTU became the first and leading university in Punjab to provide such specialised service for researchers at its Knowledge Resource Centre. He shared that maximum use of Technology is need of the hour and as Technical University it is our responsibility to facilitate our stakeholder with maximum use of Technology. He said that Discovery service provides a special designed single window search engine for the researchers which saves lots of time of researchers and would also provide them better search results.
It is worth mentioning that Discovery service also provide access to more than one lakh sixty thousand ebooks of premium publishers. It will also provide access to a large database of thesis and dissertation and access to more than 8 lakh thesis. Researchers outside IKGPTU campus can also see the resources available from IKGPTU website and if any document ebook or ejournal article required they can send request to University’s Knowledge Resource Centre.
Director Academics Dr. Balkar Singh presented a brief note over the technical functioning of Discovery Services. He said that it’s an online library searching tool and a revolutionary step for Library Resources Management.
On this occasion Dean RIC Dr. Anirudh Pratap Singh, Deputy Librarian Madhu Midda & other University faculty members, staffs were also present.
