University NCC & NSS units commanded “Run For Remembrance” Event, hundreds student participated

On February 14 2024, the cadets of NCC wing along with NSS volunteers of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University observed the day as Balidaan’24 (Balidaan Divas), dedicated to the memory of the fal

len heroes who lost their lives in the Pulwama Terror attack of 2019. The event was organised in mentorship of Vice Chancellor Dr Susheel Mittal and aimed to honor the sacrifice and uphold the legacy of bravery and service to the nation.

The day commenced with a poignant “Run for Remembrance,” symbolizing solidarity and tribute to the fallen heroes. The run was flagged off by the University Registrar Dr. S.K. Misra, signifying the institution’s commitment to honoring the martyrs.

Among boys , Antish, Pushpinder, Saurabh Sharma were top runners and among girls , Armaan Kaur, Babanpreet Kaur and Himanshi were in top row to complete the marathon.

Throughout the day, students engaged in various activities to express their respect and gratitude towards the army personnels who sacrificed their lives for their love for the nation.

A poster-making competition was organised, which provided a platform for artistic expression, with participants showcasing heartfelt tributes to the martyrs through their creative artwork. Surjit Kumar stood first, Lokesh was first runner up and Deepak Singla second runner up.

Additionally, students penned heartfelt letters addressed to the martyrs, expressing gratitude pledging to uphold the values for which they laid down their lives. Abhay Sharma, Sidhant Gautam and Arnika were distinguished writers.

Cultural events in the evening, including musical performances and poetry recitations, served as poignant reminders of the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers. Dean Academics Prof Dr. Vikas Chawla and Dr. Hitesh Sharma, Dean RIC, presided over the cultural event and gave away prizes and certificates to the winners and participants.

Ms. Neha Kumar, NCC Cadet was ranked as Senior Under Officer . Discipline, Patriotism, Leadership, Motivation & IT – all reflects in Senior Under Officer, Ms. Neha Kumari.

Meanwhile, Marathon runner up, Ms. Babanpreet quoted ‘A marathon will help you discover your real strength.’

Since the day was an auspicious day of Basant Panchami, the cultural event started with the Ma Sarswati pujan and Vandana by the students. These performances resonated with attendees, fostering a sense of unity and remembrance among them.

Balidaan’24 served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the martyrs and inspired a renewed sense of patriotism and dedication to the nation’s ideals among the students, staff & faculty at I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University. At the end, Dr. Naveen Chawla extended a vote of thanks especially Vice Chancellor Dr Mittal for his encouragement and patronizing such important events. He also lauded the efforts of the students for making this event a huge success. Dr. Chandar Prakash, AP cum NSS team leader performed the leading role in the organizing team.
