IKG PTU observed the death anniversary of Bhai Kanhaiya ji as “Manav Sewa Diwas”

Vice Chancellor Dr. Susheel Mittal addressed on the importance of selfless service by giving the example of the life of Bhai Kanhaiya ji

Jalandhar/Kapurthala The Government of Punjab has declared death anniversary of Bhai Kanhaiya ji as “Service to Humanity” Day (Manav Sewa Divas). In this context, the NSS Wing of I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) observed “Service to Humanity” Day (Manav Sewa Divas) on September 21, 2023 at Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Auditorium. In this event, a documentary on life and teachings of Bhai Kanhaiya ji was shown to the students. Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, the Vice Chancellor Dr. Susheel Mittal addressed the students of various aspects of the personality and life of Bhai Kanhaiya ji. He described the untiring and unwavering service done by Bhai Kanhaiya ji to the sufferings of wounded soldiers in the war without knowing their caste, creed and religion, is an example before us and go well with the moto of NSS “Not me but You”.

He said ” In present day, society is suffering from religious and communal divide, hate, envy and mistrust, being youth, we should do away with this divide and work for the betterment of the society. He also said that present day our state is suffering from environmental and health crisis and following the footsteps of Bhai Kanhaiya ji, we should work for the conservation of water resources in Punjab as Bhai Kanhaiya ji throughout his life rendered his services in giving water to the needy, wounded and thirsty soldiers in wars as well as during peace times also. Various national and international organizations are drawing inspiration from the work of Bhai Kanhaiya ji and performing service to the humanity, prominent among these are Indian Red Cross Society and International Committee of Red Cross & Red Crescent, Geneva.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Vikas Chawla, Dean Academics suggested that NSS volunteers and NCC cadets should organize Medical Aid Camps and Blood Donation Camp in the honour and name of Bhai Kanhaiya ji which would be a true tribute to his work.

Dr. S.K. Misra, Registrar, IKGPTU suggested that NSS Volunteers should come forward to identify some social problems of the society and engage themselves in them like In Covid crisis and during recent floods in Punjab when people in majority of districts were cut off from rest of the state. This will certainly help us in developing humane aspect of our personality.

Dr. Chander Parkash, Program Coordinator (NSS) of IKGPTU, described different initiatives taken up by the NSS Wing of IKGPTU where five nearby villages in the vicinity of IKGPTU have been identified and some developmental projects will be undertaken in near future with the help of district administration.
