IKG PTU Chemistry Department Students visited Biomass Based Power Plant

Jalandhar/Kapurthala Students of the Department of Chemistry of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Kapurthala visited the Biomass based Power Plant, Malwa Power Pvt Ltd, Sri Muktsar Sahib on November 07, 2023. The visit aimed to provide students with practical insights into renewable energy technologies and their applications in the real world. Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Susheel Mittal said that his effort is to provide maximum practical training along with theory to the students of every subject. Chemistry Department Faculty and students have expressed their gratitude to Vice Chancellor Dr. Mittal and Registrar Dr. S.K. Misra for this opportunity.
Stubble burning is a major environmental problem in Punjab which leads to air pollution (Smog) and many health problems to human beings. To curb this problem, one of the alternatives is to convert the biomass into energy by biomass conversion technique. One such plant named Malwa Power Private limited which is present in Village Gulabewala near Sri Muktsar Sahib.
During the visit, the students were introduced to the plant’s history, mission, and objectives, gaining a comprehensive understanding of its significance in promoting sustainable energy solutions. A guided tour of the facility allowed the students to witness the entire process of energy generation from renewable Biomass like paddy waste. The visit featured interactive sessions conducted by knowledgeable plant engineers and experts. These sessions delved into the technical aspects of renewable energy generation, storage, and distribution, sparking engaging discussions among the students.
Mr B S Jangra, CEO of the plant answered all the questions and provided students with the chance to clarify their doubts and gain deeper insights into the challenges and opportunities in the renewable energy sector. Overall, the industrial visit proved to be an enriching and inspiring experience for the students. It not only expanded their knowledge of renewable energy technologies but also encouraged them to consider future careers in the renewable energy sector. The visit was a resounding success, fostering a positive learning environment and leaving a lasting impact on the students’ educational journey. Dr Vandana Naithani, Dr Rupesh Kumar and Mr Vijay Kumar of the Department of Chemistry accompanied the students on this visit.
