VC Prof. (Dr.) Arvind K. Bansal Inaugurates Event, Pays Rich Tributes to the Great Freedom Fighter and Veteran Journalist

JALANDHAR/KAPURTHALA ( ): I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU) hosts a Blood Donation Camp at the Banquet Hall of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Auditorium, Main Campus, Kapurthala, to commemorate the memory of freedom fighter and veteran journalist Amar Shaheed Lala Jagat Narayan Ji.

The event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Arvind Kumar Bansal along with Registrar Dr. Navdeepak Sandhu. Both dignitaries paid floral tributes before the portrait of Amar Shaheed Lala Jagat Narayan Ji to honor his supreme sacrifice and contribution to the nation.

Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Arvind Kumar Bansal recalled the extraordinary life and legacy of Lala Jagat Narayan Ji, highlighting his roles as a prominent freedom fighter, journalist, and founder of the Hind Samachar Media Group (Punjab Kesari, Jag Bani, and Hind Samachar).

“Lala Jagat Narayan Ji was a visionary who devoted his life to the nation and the cause of truth. Joining Mahatma Gandhi’s Non-Cooperation Movement in 1920 and serving as Lala Lajpat Rai’s personal secretary in jail, he spent nearly nine years in prison across various anti-colonial Satyagraha campaigns. Post-partition, he pioneered brave journalism and served the public as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Minister, and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).” VC Prof. Bansal went through the great history chapter related to Lala Ji.

The Vice Chancellor further noted that following Lala Ji’s martyrdom on September 9, 1981, the Government of India honored his monumental contributions with a commemorative postage stamp in 2013.

VC Prof. Bansal inspired the university faculty, staff, students, and voluntary donors to draw inspiration from such great personalities who brought pride to humanity and the country through selfless service. A large number of students and staff members enthusiastically participated in the drive to donate blood for the noble cause.

The health department team of District Kapurthala supported this camp and the total 50 number of units donated by volunteers of IKGPTU staff, faculty, students and the students of Anand College of Engineering and Management Kapurthala.
