Cyber Security Awareness Seminar | Stay Aware. Stay Secure. Stay Responsible

The Office of Corporate Relations & Alumni at I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University successfully organized a Cyber Security Awareness Program in collaboration with NIIT Foundation under project of CISCO for university students at the IKG PTU Main Campus, Kapurthala on April 01, 2026.

The seminar aimed at building awareness among students and encouraging safe, responsible digital practices in an increasingly technology-driven world. With the rising risks of cyber frauds, identity theft, and misuse of personal information, the session focused on equipping students with essential knowledge to navigate the digital space securely.
The event commenced with a keynote address by Dr. Navdeepak Sandhu, Registrar & Head (CR&A), who emphasized the importance of cyber awareness in today’s digital era and encouraged students to remain vigilant and informed.

The awareness session was conducted by representatives from NIIT Foundation, including Ms. Shweta Verma, Trainer and Ms. Jasmeet Kaur, College Coordinator (Punjab). They delivered an insightful and practical session, sharing real-life examples of cyber scams and digital frauds, making the discussion highly relatable for students.

During the session, students gained valuable insights into safe internet usage, protection of personal data, and identification of cyber threats such as phishing attacks and online scams. The speakers highlighted how scammers often build trust gradually by offering seemingly attractive opportunities like “easy money,” eventually exploiting that trust for fraudulent activities.
A key learning from the seminar was the importance of not sharing personal or financial information with unknown or unverified sources, regardless of how convincing they may appear. Students were also sensitized towards maintaining responsible behavior on social media and building a secure digital presence.

The session remained interactive and engaging, followed by a Q&A segment where students actively participated and clarified their doubts.

The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony and a formal vote of thanks delivered by Er. Mohit Jain, Assistant Registrar (CR&A), appreciating the efforts of the NIIT Foundation team and encouraging students to apply the learnings in their daily digital interactions.

Additionally, the NIIT Foundation team shared information regarding their further training and placement opportunities under CSR activity of Infosys available for university students, adding practical value to the session.

Overall, the seminar served as an eye-opening and impactful experience, reinforcing the idea that staying safe online is not just an option but a personal responsibility.
