The Centre of Training and Placement, I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), in collaboration with the National Statistics Office (Field Operations Division), Regional Office Jalandhar, successfully organized a Seminar on Statistical Awareness & Developmental Insights on October 15, 2025, at the IKGPTU Main Campus, Kapurthala.

The event was held as part of the 75th year celebration of the National Sample Survey (NSS), the event aimed to promote awareness on how data and statistics drive national development and evidence-based policymaking.

The technical session included insightful presentations by Shri Gaurav Jain, Senior Statistical Officer, NSO (FOD) RO Jalandhar — Overview of NSO & Its Schemes and Dr. Kulwinder Parmar, Assistant Professor, IKGPTU Hoshiarpur — Data Extraction & Visualization

In addition to the seminar, an Essay Writing Competition was held to encourage students to express their perspectives on the role of statistics in development. Around 196 students attended the seminar from University Main Campus, colleges & schools of Kapurthala & Jalandhar participated in the essay writing competition. Two students from IKG PTU Main Campus, Mr. Anshul Singh, B.Tech CSE & Anvi Tyagi, B.Tech CSE secured 1st & 3rd position for the same. Winners were felicitated with cash prizes, medals, and certificates, recognizing their outstanding contributions.

Smt. Pallavi Agrawal Srivastava, Joint Director & Regional Head, NSO Jalandhar, Shri Harbilas, Deputy Director, NSO Jalandhar, Shri Arun Kumar, Assistant Director, NSO Jalandhar, Smt. Manisha Mahajan, Senior Statistical Officer, NSO (FOD) RO Jalandhar and Sh. Mohit Jain, AR (T&P) IKG PTU were present during the event.
