Success of academic programs depends on getting feedback from the participants and working on it for the future: IAS Vikas Garg
Jalandhar / Kapurthala: Knowledge & Idea sharing is very much important for the technical education institutes. It is very much helpful to improve one institution to other institution. Its a transformation circle. Doing so not only enhances the knowledge of the particular subject experts but also provides information about the latest developments in other institutions. But even more important is to take feedback after organizing an academic programs and make corrections in the future according to that feedback. This is the message of Vikas Garg, IAS, Vice Chancellor, I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU) who is also the Secretary, Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training. He was addressing as chief guest at the closing ceremony of the online induction and refresher program organized by the university on Tuesday. The theme of the program was Surface Engineering and Coating. It was continue for seven days from 16th February to 22nd February.
The program was sponsored by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) New Delhi and ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education). Vice Chancellor Vikas Garg congratulated the members of the organizing team for this successful online program. He also recalled the days of his engineering studies.
Experts shared that Surface Engineering is the sub-discipline of Mechanical Engineering. The surface phase of a solid interacts with the surrounding environment and this interaction can degrade the surface phase over time. Environmental degradation of the surface phase over time can be caused by wear, corrosion, fatigue and creep. Corrosion of metals costs approximately Rs. 24000 crores (Rs. 240000 million) to India due to materials corrosion in building structures, bridges, chemical plants, offshore platforms, power plants, ships, pipe lines for transportation of hydrocarbon, electrical and electronics components as reported in IIM Metal News. It is estimated that corrosion-related costs can be reduced more than 30% by development and use of better corrosion control technologies. Corrosion control measures include corrosion inhibitors, cathodic protection and coatings. Therefore, the development of wear and corrosion protection systems is a very important topic from both engineering and an economic perspective.
The Dean Academics IKGPTU Prof. (Dr.) Vikas Chawla was the program coordinator. He shared that the topic was related to Mechanical Engineering and subject Surface Engineering and Coating is a part of it. He said that the online program provided information to the researchers, faculty members and students about the basics of the subject, its practice and its proper use in better research work. Dean Academic Prof. Chawla said that while the Vice Chancellor of IKGPTU Mr. Vikas Garg was the source of inspiration in organizing this program, the Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Technical University, Bathinda Prof. Dr. Buta Singh Sidhu was also guide in this programme. Prof. Chawla informed that the country’s renowned technology
scientists, researchers and teachers from various state educational institutions participated in this online program as subject experts. Prof. P.K. Desai, President ISTE, Prof. Harpreet Singh, IIT Ropar, Dr. Rajneesh Arora, Managing Director, ACET, Amritsar. Dr. Neeraj Bala, NITTTR, Chandigarh, Dr. H.N. Shah, Gandhinagar Institute of Technology (Gujarat), Dr Subhash Kamal MGM College of Engineering and Technology Mumbai (Maharashtra) and others were the main resource persons in the event. The program was attended by 100 participants, who were also given 50 questions for the test and also shared the feedback form.
In the closing ceremony, the program management team included Dr. Neel Kanth Grover, Dean Student Welfare, Assistant Professor Deepak Goel, Dr. Nitya Sharma, Deputy Controller Academic Departments were present in the online event.
