   To strengthen the base of all academic institutions, Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) are very much important. It is a straight forward fact that if your faculty is rich with knowledge, your academia will be more empowered. We are privileged that we are doing our best on the part of faculty development with the support of AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). These are the words of Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University. VC Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma was addressing the faculty members of various educational institutions of Punjab during the inaugural of first One Week FDP on “Modern Tools and Techniques for Teachers and Researchers” held at IKGPTU main campus Kapurthala. He was Chief Guest of the event.

 It is worth mentioning that recently IKGPTU has signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) with AICTE to conduct ten collaborative Faculty Development Programmes in which faculty members of various institutes of Punjab and nearby states will be trained. Four FDPs will be conducted at University Main Campus by various departments. This First FDP was conducted by Electronics & Communication Engineering department of IKGPTU.

 Dr. Satvir Singh FDP Coordinator shared the objectives of FDPs. He said that creating of E-contents (especially, Video Lectures) for teaching, Familiarization with MOOCs and Moodle for effective classroom teaching, writing good quality research papers and theses are on top priority during FDPs. Total fifty faculty members and research scholars from twenty-three different institutes participated in this FDP.

He told that Electronics & Communication Engineering department of the university has created a unique facility where faculty uses to create Video Lectures for its students.

Dr. Rohit Mehra, Dr. Arun Khosla and Dr. Rakesh Sharma, three experts from NIT Jalandhar, shared their knowledge with participants and encouraged them to evolve quality research. Dr. Amit Kamra, an expert from GNDEC Ludhiana, demonstrated how to use Moodle platforms for effective classroom teaching.

Dr. Neel Kanth Grover in his talk encouraged the participants to do self-learning through NPTEL MOOCs platform. Dr. Satvir Singh also contributed by giving hands on experience on creating Video Lectures and writing quality documents using LaTeX software.

Three more such AICTE-IKGPTU sponsored FDPs will be conducted by Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering departments of the university in the month of December.
