Dr. Susheel Mittal, the 19th Vice Chancellor of IKGPTU assumed the role of the Vice Chancellor on June 17, 2023. Dr. Mittal has been appointed for a term of three years as regular Vice Chancellor of the University on June 15 by the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of the University. Hon’ble Governor Punjab also give the additional charge of Vice Chancellor of Sardar Beant Singh (SBS) State University Gurdaspur to Dr. Susheel Mittal in addition to his present responsibility as Vice Chancellor IKGPTU. Before joining to IKGPTU as VC, Dr. Mittal was VC at SBS State University, Gurdaspur.

Biography of Dr. Susheel Mittal

Dr. Susheel Mittal did his M. Sc. (Hons School) and PhD in Chemistry from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, in 1986. He is a Chartered Chemist (CChem), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), London (UK), and a member of the Advisory Board/Editorial Board of many international and national journals of repute.

His leadership quality and calibre have been exemplified by his varied experience of leading top academic institutions in the state of Punjab. He had been serving as the Vice-Chancellor of SBS State University, Gurdaspur since November 2021. His consistent efforts and administrative acumen spawned the enhancement of revenue generation of SBS University by 30% in one year, and the improvement of its admissions by 60%, besides many other laudable administrative reforms and redressal of staff problems. He was the one to start PhD programs at SBS State University. Earlier, he also served at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology since 1989 and worked in positions like Deputy Director, Dean of Research and Sponsored Projects, and Head of the School of Chemistry.

Dr. Susheel Mittal has been an eminent researcher with remarkable credentials. He has an impressive record of quality research, and innovation in the domains of his research interests including monitoring and prediction of particulate pollution in the ambient air during crop residue burning and their effects on Human health, Development of whole cell-based biosensors, and ion-sensitive field-effect transistor (ISFETS) as chemical sensors.

Dr. Mittal has completed 12 sponsored research projects and one from the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK. With more than 135 quality research papers in international and national refereed journals, research guidance to many students including 25 doctorates, 10 post graduates of ME/ MTech (Environmental Engineering), and 28 from M.Sc. Chemistry. It is his receptivity, comprehensibility, and the rich global exposure he has received during his travel to the countries including USA, UK, Japan, Belgium, Colombia, etc, that has enabled him to develop a holistic approach to education, serving the interests of all with such splendid grace and calmness that is an encouragement to all.
