One-day workshop on “Emerging challenges and opportunities in current electric power systems” for the students of Electrical Engineering Department on 9th April 2025
A one-day workshop on “Emerging challenges and opportunities in current electric power systems” commenced on dated 9th April 2025. This workshop had been organized for all the students of B.Tech EE and M.Tech (PES) by the Electrical Engineering Department IKG PTU Main campus Kapurthala. Venue of the workshop was A-210, 2nd floor, AB-II. Department of Electrical Engineering. This whole workshop had been bifurcated into two sessions. In the morning session, the faculty members of the department delivered their expertise with the students. Dr YS Brar, Professor & Head-EE, delivered the one hour talk on modern tools of optimization techniques. Dr Akhil Gupta AP-EE deliberated on the topic, development of artificial intelligence techniques for a smart grid. Dr Naveen Kumar Sharma AP-EE highlighted the importance of AI applications in Electric vehicles. During the workshop, all the students were inspired and motivated to work on the thrust areas of the electrical engineering.
During the evening session, Dr Brajesh Rawat Assistant Professor Electrical Engineering IIT Ropar Punjab accompanied two faculty members from IIT Ropar in the department. His entire team members elaborated about ongoing research, academic collaborations, and potential PhD opportunities at IIT Ropar. He stressed mainly on the training facilities available at their department based on problem solving and its learning approach. He inspired the students to undertake their various interns and trainings in future at the campus of IIT Ropar. He promised every support and research facility will be made available for the convenience to the students of EE department IKG PTU Main campus Kapurthala. Especially, the students had been made familiar about the procedure to begin their request applications for interns and trainings.
In the event patronized by the honorable VC of the University, Sh. Susheel Mittal, he enlightened the students about the various developments taking place in modern artificial intelligence techniques in electrical power systems, especially in green energy. Dr. SK Mishra, Registrar, IKGPTU, congratulated the students for attending this workshop and motivated them for regular update of
their industrial skills in future. Dr. Vikas Chawla, Dean of Academics, IKGPTU, inspired the students to further extend the outcome of this workshop in their future profession. Especially, he stressed upon the need of such workshops to be organized on regular basis for the students to enhance more experiential learning. Finally, the workshop ended with the information of all types of experimental facilities available at IIT Ropar. Earlier, the Head of department-Electrical Engineering, Prof. (Dr.) Yadwinder Singh Brar welcomed the guests, and motivated all the students to participate in workshop with full vigour. He highlighted that the department conducts such activities for their students and faculty members on regular basis. The coordinators of the workshop Dr Akhil Gupta AP-EE and Dr Naveen Kumar Sharma AP-EE, conveyed the scope and expected outcomes of the workshop. During the workshop, the entire department staff supported the students for successful completion. Finally, Head of the department thanked the university staff for the support provided.
