Jalandhar/Kapurthala, 16 July 2019 ( ) With the passing of time, generations are facing problems at humanitarian ground, it may be because of differences of thinking level or due to our professional education system. But it is a fact that education on Human Values is the need of the hour. Above all we know that first we are Humans and then Professionals. Life is in harmony not in competition.

 

This was the message of Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor I.K.Gujral Punjab technical University (IKGPTU). He inaugurated 03 residential faculty development programs (FDPs) held at IKGPTU main campus Kapurthala on various dates in the month of June-July 2019. Each residential FDP was of 7 days & all were sponsored by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). These residential FDPs were organized by University as Student Induction programs.

 

Total 205 Faculty members from 13 States of India like Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Rajasthan, UP, Uttrakhand, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Banguluru and Kerala were oriented through these FDPs. Besides these 3 FDPs 8 more FDPs were organized in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana & Punjab. Around 445 teachers from different states of India attended these FDPs too. The key resource persons were Jatinder Narula, Mohit Jain & Vinay Kehar from IKGPTU.

 

It is worth mentioning that since July 2018, AICTE has introduced mandatory three-weeks Student Induction Program (SIP) based on UHV for the first-year students joining the colleges and the classes will begin after these induction programs. These programs are mandatory for every student. It is of utmost importance that the faculty members/teachers are equipped and refreshed to conduct the induction program for the students. To cater this, all Faculties must undergo such 7 days Residential FDPs based on UHV. Only such faculties will be eligible to conduct SIP at their colleges.

 

In this regard, IKGPTU organized 7 days’ residential FDP on SIP through UHV during the summer breaks (June – July 2019). In this series, IKGPTU organized 7 days’ FDP for teachers.

 

VC IKGPTU Prof. (Dr.) Ajay K. Sharma, Registrar Dr. S.S. Ahluwalia & Assistant Professor Dr. Jagmeet Bawa motivates faculty members to work on subject Human Values. Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Hon’ble VC IKG PTU shared about the vision and efforts being done by University in the field of Value Education. Further he shared that IKG PTU will organize such more FDP in near future also. Further he deliberated about the importance of a teacher in the society, as a teacher is a Nation Builder. IKG PTU is taking care of around 11 FDPs for North –West Region of India.

 

Dr. S. S. Ahluwalia, Registrar, IKGPTU focused on the need of the Value Education in current education system. IKG PTU has been making efforts with the core idea that “the role of education is to facilitate the development of the competence to live with human conduct”.
