IKGPTU AMRITSAR CAMPUS ORGANIZED ANNUAL SPORTS MEET

IKGPTU Amritsar Campus successfully hosted its Annual Sports Meet on February 14, 2025, with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. The event witnessed active participation from students across various disciplines, showcasing their athletic skills in a series of sports competitions.

Dr. R.P.S. Bedi, Dean (Alumni &International Affairs), IKGPTU, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Er. Davinder Singh Bhatti, Principal, Government Polytechnic, Amritsar, attended as the Guest of Honour. The event was presided over by (Prof.) Dr. Ashish Arora, Director, IKGPTU Amritsar Campus.

The Sports Meet commenced with an impressive march-past by student contingents, reflecting discipline and team spirit. The event featured a wide variety of sports, including athletics (100m, 200m, relay races, long jump, shot put), kabaddi, and traditional regional games that highlighted the rich sporting culture of Punjab. Additionally, fun games such as tug-of-war, Lemon spoon race, leg in bag race and three-legged race, brought excitement and engagement for both participants and spectators.

Adding to the excitement, faculty and staff members also participated in selected games, including fun games. Their involvement not only encouraged the students but also promoted a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie between staff and students.

Addressing the Students, Chief Guest Dr. R.P.S. Bedi emphasized the significance of sports in shaping a student’s character and instilling essential values. In his speech, he said, “Sports are not just about winning or losing; they teach us valuable life lessons such as resilience, dedication, and discipline. I encourage all students to actively participate in sports and maintain a balance between academics and physical fitness. A strong mind resides in a strong body, and such events contribute to overall development.”

(Prof.) Dr. Ashish Arora, Director, IKGPTU Amritsar Campus, also addressed the students, expressing his appreciation for the students’ enthusiasm and competitive spirit. He stated, “Sports play a crucial role in personal development, teaching teamwork, leadership, and perseverance. At IKGPTU Amritsar Campus, we believe in nurturing not only academic excellence but also physical and mental well-being. I am proud to see such energetic participation and hope that students continue to take part in such events with the same passion.”

Prof. (Dr.) Susheel Mittal, Vice Chancellor and Dr S K Misra Registrar, I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University Jalandhar – Punjab sent their best wishes for the event through a message.

The event concluded with the much-awaited prize distribution ceremony, where winners were felicitated for their outstanding performances. The Chief Guest and Director congratulated all participants and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence in both academics and sports.

Finally, Dr. S.B.S. Kalsi, Sports Coordinator, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, Director, faculty members, and organizing team for their unwavering support. He also appreciated the efforts of student volunteers and participants, saying, “The success of this Sports Meet is a testament to the dedication and teamwork of everyone involved. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the dignitaries, faculty, and

students for making this event a grand success. Let us continue to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and strive for excellence in all fields.”

A special thanks was extended to Mr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Youth Officer, for his dedicated efforts in training and preparing students for the all the games in Sports Meet. His guidance and encouragement played a crucial role in ensuring enthusiastic participation and outstanding performances from the students.

The sports meet was a resounding success, reinforcing the university’s commitment to holistic student development and the promotion of a vibrant sports culture.
