Encouragement to Sportsmanship is the only solution to keep young generation away from drug: VC IKGPTU Prof. (Dr.) Sharma

In order to save young generation from drug, today every side of society, institutions are making great efforts. But it is on fact that encouraging the games, sportsmanship and motivating the young generation to participate in sports, are the only solution to keep youngsters away from drug. These are the words of Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University. Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sharma was addressing annual sports award distribution function held at University main campus. He presides over the ceremony. In his address he said that it is a matter of pride that in spite of having a technical education institute, IKG PTU is encouraging sports in its every campus as well as in affiliated colleges. He reiterated the efforts of the University’s NSS, Sports and Cultural Wing. He also reiterated the promise of the University management about all-round development of the younger generation. 
 
Director Sports Punjab IAS Amrit Kaur Gill, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, said that the students should take appropriate initiative in the society by joining the spirit of sports. She said that the games are essential to maintain physical fitness. The games also offer employment and social respect too. She appreciated the better efforts made by the University and encouraged the students to participate in sports along with education curriculum.
 
On this occasion, Hockey Olympian Gurbaj Singh, who joined event as a special guest, encouraged students of Punjab to join Hockey. He said that students can gain high standard of living by joining Hockey Game. 
 
Dr. R.P.S. Bedi joint registrar IKG PTU & heading youth affairs department welcomed all the guests & students. He said that University is providing the state-of-the-art sports stadiums and other facilities to its students. He said that the University has achieved the highest level of sports and cultural activities in the last few years, which is a matter of pride. 
 
During the function, Guru Nanak Dev College of Engineering, Ludhiana was honored with the overall trophy, while runner-up trophy was received by Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran. Second Runner-up Trophy was delivered to DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jalandhar. A Student Harshvir Singh Sekhon was honored for the gold medal in the cycling competition and another student Neha was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 for her best performance in the North-Regional Youth Festival was held in Punjab University, Chandigarh. She participated in Rangoli competition.
 
In the end, the ritual of the vote of thanks was given by the NSS Coordinator Dr. Jagmeet Bawa, while stage was conducted by Assistant Professor Punjabi Dr. Sarabjit Singh Mann.
