Kapurthala/Jalandhar, September 9, 2026 – From manual pagination to AI-assisted news production, students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), gained first-hand exposure to the rapidly transforming world of print journalism during an industrial visit to the Dainik Jagran printing press, Jalandhar.

The visit offered practical insights into the newspaper production process and highlighted how traditional print journalism is adapting to digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Senior Chief Sub-Editor, Punjabi Jagran, Arundeep, interacted with the students and explained the growing role of AI in newsroom operations. He shared how AI tools are now being used for translation, automated pagination, headline suggestions, content refinement, and language improvement—reducing editorial turnaround times significantly. He emphasized that while technology enhances efficiency, human qualities such as editorial judgment, creativity, and linguistic command remain irreplaceable in journalism.

Deepak, Deputy Chief, Technical Head North Zone, demonstrated offset printing technology and explained the stages of large-scale newspaper production. Students observed the precision, speed, and technical coordination involved in preparing newspapers for distribution.

The visit was smoothly coordinated by Seema Anand, Deputy Chief Sub-Editor, and organized under the directions of University Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Arvind K. Bansal, who has consistently emphasized industry-oriented learning. University Registrar Dr. Navdeepak Sandhu appreciated the efforts of Department Head Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh and faculty members for facilitating meaningful industry exposure.

Faculty members Dr. Mangla Sahni, Hari K. Singh, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Aabid Reza, and Karan (Technical Assistant) actively supported the students during the visit.
