IKG PTU NSS Unit celebrated World Wetlands Day 2026

IKGPTU NSS unit observes World Wetlands Day with Awareness Programme & Student-Led Initiatives
Jalandhar/Kapurthala ( ) I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU) National Service Scheme (NSS) unit successfully organized a meaningful and impactful programme to observe World Wetlands Day. It aimed to spread awareness about the importance of wetlands on earth and their role in environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. Vice Chancellor Prof.(Dr.) Susheel Mittal joined the event as Chief Guest. Their participation added great value to the programme and inspired students and volunteers to take an active role in protecting natural ecosystems.
The programme began with a traditional Maa Saraswati Vandana, seeking blessings for wisdom and knowledge. It followed by an address highlighting the significance of wetlands as vital natural resources that support biodiversity, regulate water cycles, and strengthen environmental sustainability.
Prof. (Dr.) Susheel Mittal, Vice Chancellor, IKGPTU, encouraged students to become responsible environmental ambassadors and stressed the importance of youth-led initiatives in building a sustainable future. He appreciated the efforts of the NSS Unit in consistently organizing programmes that promote social responsibility and environmental awareness.
Sh. Surinder Singh, Executive Director, Kheti Virasat, Punjab, shared valuable insights on the connection between sustainable agricultural practices and wetland conservation. He emphasized the need for community participation in preserving natural water bodies and promoting eco-friendly lifestyles.
As part of the event, students actively participated in a Declamation Competition, where they expressed their views, ideas, and commitments toward wetland protection and environmental conservation. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation and thoughtful presentations, reflecting the strong awareness and sense of responsibility among the students.
The event concluded with the declaration of results and the distribution of certificates and prizes to the winners, recognizing their efforts and encouraging continued engagement in environmental initiatives.
The NSS Unit, IKGPTU, extended sincere gratitude to all respected guests, faculty members, volunteers, organizers, and participants for their cooperation and support in making the programme a success. The university reaffirmed its commitment to fostering environmental consciousness and empowering students to contribute meaningfully to society.
