Workshop on “Solar Energy System for Sustainable Development and Automation” for Electrical Engineering students at IKGPTU Main campus

A One-day workshop “Solar Energy System for Sustainable Development and Automation”, was organized on 6th November 2025 at IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, Main campus, Kapurthala. This workshop was organized by Electrical Engineering Department for the students of B.Tech. Electrical Engineering. The invited experts were from Wonder Automation-Training Division, Industrial area, Mohali Punjab. Around 40 students of the department participated with great enthusiasm. Especially, focus was given to enhance the practical skills of undergraduate students of the department. The invited experts deliberated upon the introduction of solar energy systems and its future energy needs. Alongside the role of various automation systems was highlighted in the future energy needs by our country.

In the event patronized by the honorable VC of the University, Sh. Susheel Mittal, he enlightened the students about the various developments and progress being made in energy sector, especially in renewable energy. Dr. Navdeepak Sandhu, Registrar, IKGPTU, congratulated the students for attending this workshop and motivated them for regular update of their skills in future also. Dr. Yadwinder Singh Brar, Dean of Academics, IKGPTU, inspired the students to further extend the outcome of this workshop in their future profession. Especially, he stressed upon the need of such workshops to be organized on regular basis for the students to enhance more experiential learning. During this workshop of one-day, industrial experts explained the introduction of the role of automation in covering the future energy needs of the country. In addition, the need of smart components of future proof solar energy systems was explained with the help of experimental modules during the workshop. Finally, the workshop ended with discussion of next big trends with all students. All students learnt the application of automation systems and their varied outcomes. During the workshop, the students practiced using controller kits and shown their results to faculty members of the department. Finally, the workshop ended with questions answers session and a group photograph. Earlier in the day, the Head of Department-Electrical Engineering, Prof. (Dr.) Yadwinder Singh Brar welcomed the guests, and motivated all the students to participate in workshop with full vigour. He highlighted that the department conducts such activities for their students and faculty members on regular basis. The coordinator of the workshop Dr. Akhil Gupta Assistant Professor, conveyed the scope and expected outcomes of the workshop. During the workshop, faculty members Dr Naveen Kumar Sharma and entire staff supported the students for successful completion. Finally, Head of the department thanked the university staff for the support provided.
