IKGPTU organized A one-day seminar on “Mindfulness and Emotional Intelligence

– An initiative by CEE (Center for Executive Education) for University Officers, Faculty and Staff
– It is very important to control the mind, heart and your spoken words to bring life in a positive direction: Registrar Dr. S.K. Misra

Jalandhar/Kapurthala I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU) organized a special one-day seminar for university officials, faculty and staff. It was initiative of University’s Center for Executive Education (CEE). The theme of the seminar was “Mindfulness and Emotional Intelligence”. The aim of the seminar was to make everyone working at the university mentally healthy, to be emotionally strong in all kinds of relations. In the mentorship of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Susheel Mittal, this subject was selected by the Center for Executive Education (CEE). The Center Head University Registrar Dr. S.K. Misra participated in this seminar as the chief guest. Prof. (Dr.) Harmeen Soch, head of the management department of the university and Dr Pooja Mehta, assistant professor of the same department delivered their lectures in the seminar as resource person.

Addressing the inaugural session, Registrar Dr. S.K. Misra said that emotional intelligence in any relationship strengthens the bond. Emotional intelligence and sharing increase intimacy in relationships works always in positive direction. He said that it is very important to control the mind, heart and your spoken words to bring life in a positive direction. Dr. Misra said that by controlling the mind, heart and tongue (spoken words), one can win over all the difficulties in the world. There are many ups and downs in life, so your heart should be strong. Dr. Misra said that many conflicts can be resolved more effectively by practicing self-awareness by overcoming the senses. He congratulates to both faculty members for choosing the subject “Mindfulness and Emotional Intelligence”.

Professor (Dr.) Harmeen Soch, as the speaker, said that emotionality is a subject that we do not read through books, but learn or feel through the ups and downs of life. She said that emotion is the subject, which is known to others about our behavior through our body language. Dr. Soch said that paying attention to our feelings, thoughts and recognizing our behavior is important for developing emotional intelligence. By becoming aware of your own behavior, you become aware of how to react in situations and how to manage your emotions more effectively. She introduced different stages of emotions with examples through PPT slides. She also held a question-answer session at the end.

The second speaker Assistant Professor (Dr.) Pooja Mehta in her lecture spoke about the importance of working in a team. She shared how even the toughest tasks can be solved easily by being in a team. She said that every group works as a team, coordination is very much needed to achieve any goal, without coordination the goal cannot be reached, for which we workday and night. She said that a leader has an important role to build any team. A good leader leads his team to the final destination. She told the employees about the importance of the team through different games.

On this occasion, CEE Deputy Registrar Saurabh Sharma welcomed and thanked the officers, faculty members and all the employees presents. In the end, the Registrar Dr. S.K. Misra awarded to both the speakers and the participants with certificates.
