In Majha, Malwa and Doaba regions of Punjab, state government will open more Skill Development Centres shortly in collaboration with ICICI Bank. The students will be given free boarding and lodging in every skill development centre. This was announced by Minister of Technical Educational & industrial Training Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi during his first visit to skill development centre of Khuni Majra being run by IKG PTU and ICICI bank jointly. He said that Punjab government is doing efforts to increase skill development centres and courses in the region. For this purpose the Punjab government is also taking initiative to collaborate with private institutions. During his special visit to Khuni Majra campus, Cabinet Minister S. Channi appreciated the skill development centre being run there by the University.
Dean Planning and Development Dr. N.P. Singh accorded him a warm welcome. Dr. Singh told that this centre has 100 percent placement record. He told that the centre is providing training of 12 weeks in various fields which includes Mechanical, Electronics, Motor Mechanical, etc. The students are being prepared for starting their own work. The eligibility for admission in this centre is minimum 8th standard pass. The students admitted here are given free boarding, lodging and diet facility. Dean Dr. Singh informed Cabinet Minister Mr. Channi and said that at present 550 students are getting training in this centre.
Cabinet Minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi personally met the students of the centre and asked them about their interests, satisfaction on the working of the centre and their expectations from Punjab Government. He encouraged the students and said that they should not be job seekers rather they should be job providers. On this occasion, Dean Academics Dr. Balkar Singh, Campus Director Coordinator Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Er. H.P. Singh and representatives of ICICI Bank were also present.
